As with The Lord of the Rings, the fantasy adventure Game of Thrones - the book turned into an HBO hit - is a favorite across the region. Thanks to slightly longer individual episodes, the third season of Game of Thrones will feature about an added hour of footage spread over its 10 installments.

Right away, it's obvious that Game of Thrones season 3 will be bigger and better as the men in charge, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss describe it as the season they've “been anticipating from the very beginning”. It's the season the show has been building up to, and now it's here just hours after being shown in the US, exclusively on OSN – your home for the latest and biggest award-winning series.

While Games of Thrones Season 2 was based solely on “A Clash of Kings,” the next installment of Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, called “A Storm of Swords” will be split into two seasons. This makes sense on two levels based on the introduction of a multitude of new, important characters and a heightened level of action. As many people who have read the books call “A Storm of Swords” their favorite part of the series, OSN viewers will undoubtedly praise the genius of Martin and the HBO producers. When you watch Game of Thrones season 3 you’ll be introduced to a host of new characters - Olenna Tyrell also known as The Queen of Thorns played by Diana Rigg, Mackenzie Crook as a wildling called Orell, Paul Kaye will play Thoros of Myr, and Clive Russell will play Brynden ‘Blackfish’ Tully.

What happened before Game of Thrones season 3?

In the aftermath of the battle at King’s Landing, King Joffrey makes his grandfather, Lord Tywin Lannister, “Savior of King's Landing" and names him Hand of the King. For uniting the Houses of Tyrell and Lannister, the alliance which caused the victory, Lord Petyr Baelish (Aidan Gillen) is given the Castle of Harrenhal. Tyrion Lannister, grievously injured in the battle, wakes to find that he has been removed from the position of Hand of the King and is left powerless. The few allies he still has advise him to leave the dangers of King’s Landing, but he refuses. Joffrey is persuaded to break off his engagement to Sansa in order to marry Lady Margaery Tyrell, leaving Sansa’s future uncertain.

Elsewhere, Lord Stannis Baratheon blames his Red Priestess for his unexpected defeat at the Battle of Blackwater. King Robb weds Lady Talisa, his secret love while Catelyn's knight Brienne escorts Jaime Lannister to King's Landing, in the hopes of exchanging him for Sansa and Arya Stark.

At Winterfell, Theon Greyjoy is betrayed by his own men and Bran Stark leaves Winterfell, headed for the Wall. Beyond the Wall, an immense army of White Walkers and wights marches towards the Night's Watch. On the other side of the narrow sea, Daenerys Targaryen kills the warlock Pyat Pree and frees her dragons before sealing Xaro Xhoan Daxos and Doreah in Xaro's vault, and using his treasure to buy a ship.
