Joshua vs Povetkin: World heavyweight title fight on OSN

September 18, 2018

WBA mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin steps into the ring with reigning WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO Heavyweight Champion, Anthony ‘AJ’ Joshua at England’s iconic Wembley Stadium on September 23 at 00:30 AM KSA, live & exclusive on OSN Sports Action 2HD.

After a unanimous decision win over New Zealand’s Joseph Parker earlier this year - the first time the Joshua has gone the distance in his professional career - AJ will be fired up to make another statement win in the stadium where he secured a knockout victory over heavyweight legend Wladimir Klitschko.

Standing in his way is Povetkin, a Russian fighter with only one defeat on his record, coincidentally to Klitschko back in 2013.

While Joshua will likely view the fight as a stepping stone to an eventual unification bout with Deontay Wilder in 2019, he shouldn’t - and is unlikely to - underestimate Povetkin.

The Russian poses a significant threat despite his height and reach disadvantage, with 24 knockouts in his career. And despite a ban and fine for taking banned substances in 2017, the Russian has since attempted to rebuild his career, most recently scoring a devastating fifth-round knockout of Britain’s David Price on the undercard of Joshua Parker.

This will either be another chapter in the glittering career of Anthony Joshua or a redemptive, shock victory for a man whose career was thought to be over.

The boxing world will be watching.

Watch: Undercard starts September 22 at 20:00 KSA. Main event expected September 23 at 00:30 AM KSA.
